Sustainable Footwear Futures is a skills enhancing and sustainable practice based programme enabling participants from design, fine art and engineering degrees to explore creative applications for regenerative fibres and digital fabrication techniques for textiles, pattern drafting, technical footwear production techniques and innovative digital design processes.
Each of the partners come from a strong background in Fashion, Textiles and Footwear Design.
LSAD/TUS will lead the textile element, based on the expertise developed in their BA in Fashion Knitwear and Textile Design. Regionally, the SAP aims to connect with local mills and textile producers in the Midlands, Midwest region of Ireland. The participants will be working on creative textile developments with regenerative fibres and digital fabrication prototyping.
IPCA will lead the digital fabrication element. IPCA have developed strong relationships with regional garment and footwear producers in the north of Portugal. The digital delivery of this element will be based on the experience that IPCA has developed in delivering other Masterclasses. The online element will concentrate on digital drafting, modelling prototypes suitable for fabrication.
HAMK will lead the creative and technical pattern drafting and production element which builds on the previous workshops to explore and develop footwear design concepts through to product prototypes. The emphasis will be on drafting and technical skill development for producing creative footwear prototypes.
All 3 elements will include input from industry experts and regional designers with substantial backgrounds in fashion, textiles, footwear, sustainable materials, and manufacturing. While the SAP is designed to work holistically, all elements can be undertaken as autonomous programmes.
