The realignment towards Smart Factories, the Cyber-Physical systems and Internet of Things, the predictive contexts of Big Data and the Human and ICT relevance on decision making, represents the main trends and challenges of next industry and business models.

The board of the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering (MCE), in collaboration with a recognized group of industrial, business and scientific entities, organized an event to share knowledge and experiences in the areas of Industry4.0, Big Data and Data Science.

The Industry 4.0 represents a great opportunity to rethink and realign goals and strategies on existing and emerging factories. The digitalization and sensors are, as never before, critical phenomena in the manufacturing process since their real-time data can now easily be acquired and processed with the Internet of Things. The technological applications are forced to follow new paradigms. Middleware’s are facing legacy systems, changing business processes, huge amount of new high technological devices and mainly, persons. Persons can now focus in their competency because technology and smart systems allow that.
The any ware, anytime and anyway already became real? Is that great?

Ao longo do tempo as organizações têm aproveitado apenas uma ínfima parte do potencial dos dados que recolhem e armazenam na sua operação, e atualmente o ritmo, diversidade e fontes de dados disponíveis tem colocado novos desafios de grande complexidade a nível tecnológico (Big Data) e organizacional, por forma as organizações sejam capazes de maximizar o potencial de informação capturado e armazenado nas bases de dados dos seus sistemas de informação, cruzando com fontes de informação externas cada vez mais importantes para a tomada de decisão, como por exemplo a proveniente da análise das redes sociais. As organizações estão num momento de Transformação Digital, em que o valor potencial dos dados tem que ser transformado em ação (Data Science), criando produtos e serviços com características determinadas pelo conhecimento extraído dos dados, na era da 3.ª plataforma digital: Cloud, Mobilidade, Redes Sociais, e Big Data/Analytics, com aceleradores de inovação como: Internet of Things, Realidade Virtual e Aumentada, Inteligência Cognitiva, Robótica. Nesta sessão será realizado um enquadramento dos conceitos, desafios e oportunidades relacionados com Big Data e Data Science, e o seu impacto na vida quotidiana e na vida das organizações.

Data Science - Infraestruturas de suporte

CESGA is a Spanish National Infrastructure that provides computing platforms for HPC, Cloud, Big Data and Machine Learning. It has a leading role in Spain and Europe in the promotion of these technologies among researchers and companies. Additionally to the provision of these resources, it pushes their usage with training and dissemination and executing collaborative projects with companies, universities and research centres. Based on their experience and contact with final users, they know the requirements of many different use cases. Based on its experience, in 2016 they have designed and opened a Big Data computing service for Data Science. In this talk, a brief description of the different possibilities will be presented, depending on the user's needs.

Automação e IA na desmaterialização de processos de negócio À medida que as empresas vão digitalizando os seus processos, a quantidade de dados arquivados vai permitindo novas utilizações, até mesmo para criar outros produtos derivados. Na nossa experiência com a desmaterialização de documentos em papel, fomos evoluindo nos diferentes tipos de conteúdos (checklists, questionários, faturas, recibos,…) e pelo meio fomos aplicando cada vez mais técnicas de Inteligência Artificial e Machine Learning. Nesta sessão partilhamos como temos percorrido este caminho e como hoje estas práticas influenciam tantos outros produtos e projetos em que somos envolvidos.

Nowadays media industry is facing big challenges! Publico Media & News was the first portuguese media company having a website and soon realized the necessity of data analysis. In the past few years, the digital devices explosion and the exponential growth of audience-accessed digital media have whipped up the perfect storm to induce the creation of BigData strategies in media companies. In order to improve business efficiency and performance, media companies are develloping the ability to access, analyse and manage vast volumes of data. They are shifting to content centric work to embrace a customer centric world. They need to enable their data structure and analytics to a level where they can bring differentiated and personalized content across a range of platforms. In this presentation the goal it's to give you the current status of Bigdata and analytics strategies in media companies taking account my recent experiences in Publico Media and News!

Big Data at Farfetch

As Farfetch grows, the volume of data that needs to be processed is also growing. An expanding customer base means that the rate at which data sources pump out data keeps increasing. Also, the evolution into a world class e-commerce platform makes the handling of new data sources a regular exercise. We will be looking at how the big data team helps data scientists, analysts and BI developers use all of this data to create innovative services, derive insights and provide business the information it needs to make better decisions
